Why PRS guitars cost so much

Re: Why PRS guitars cost so much

Why do I post that stuff? Because we have something called the 1st amendment.
Your misinterpretation of the Constitution is as great as it it common (sadly enough). Any freedom of speech on a message board is at the discretion of those who operate the board. Just because the government can't sanction you for speech doesn't mean that Evan, Jeremy, or the other powers that be can't smack us down if they don't find our comments appropriate.

As for the rest, I think it's as well-conceived as your notion of Constitutional applicability. Keep talking though. It's just pixels on a screen. Some of 'em are more worthwhile than others.

blah blah blah something about how other people spend their money...and I misunderstood the thread topic to say why do PRS guitars cost to much as in a question, instead of a statement.

Regarding the pickup swap, you have to take into consideration how important pickups are to an electric guitar. They are at least 75% of what makes it what it is. That said, with the $2500 you pay for an American PRS, it would mean the pickup set should be high grade and extremely valuable.

That's what makes companies like Duncan and DiMarzio so endearing, in that they have the ability to make really mediocre often-times sub-$300 guitars sound extraordinary. Having to buy a PRS valued at 10 times that, and being unsatisfied is just wrong.

Calm down man.

The fact of the matter is that it's asinine to think a manufacturer could make ONE set of pickups per MODEL that work for every single person who wants THAT model. I mean really, think about that.

Paul Reed Smith, the man, has different taste in pickups than I do, and different taste in guitar tone than I do. Does that mean his guitar isn't great? No, it just means the guitar needs some modification to make me happy.

PRS makes excellent pickups, it just depends if the guitar you're looking at has the pickups that fit you the best.

Personally I don't know why anyone would spend over $2,000 on a guitar that didn't "speak" to them, that they felt sounded and played amazing or needed work. Don't blame the manufacturer, blame the buyer that has GAS and now will go on a long voyage trying to find pickups that match the sound he wants- which he'll soon get bored of and switch again. I know, I've been there.

Re: Why PRS guitars cost so much

I've had guitars "speak" to me without plugging them in. I think the pickup is important in translating that to the amplifier, nothing more.
