Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

Meh, I can get used to just about anything, but Explorer types just feel right to me, standing or sitting.

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

My guitars require a belly cut to protect the finish from my rock hard abs. Don't even get me started on the much needed boner cut.

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

I think some people get cranky when you start taking wood off the guitar, not realizing that it doesn't really matter all that much.

I have guitars with or without, and I don't really notice an advantage either way.

+1

They've never bothered me. I'm pretty easy going.

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

I wonder when they'll introduce the Boob Cut ?

Hopefully never!

Wow, she's playing an EGEN18 :fingersx: Because of my finances, I'm stuck with the EGEN8 :yell:

BTW, is that Green guitar with the maple board an Ibanez?!?

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

It's a Jackson. You can see it near the end.

Oh, thanks - I had enough shredding and silicone after the mid-way point :11:

BTW, that green Adrian Smith looks like a nice axe for 500 bucks, but I would swap the neck pup for a Duncan Hot Rail :smokin:

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

Whilst I loved my old ASAT the sharper edge of the body was really uncomfortable for me. When I got my Wayne Super T with tummy cut and forearm contour things were much better. Strangely Les Paul's are still the guitars that fit me the best so I could never understand why the ASAT didn't?

The raised bridge and carved top basically function like a forearm cut IMO.

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

My Yamaha Weddington Classic has a belly cut and that guitar is 100% awesome! I have a big belly and my guitars all have belly cuts. I don't think I'd enjoy playing a guitar without one all that much...

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

I think I'd rather see them than the real Iron Maiden.

What was this thread about again?? LOL

Re: Why the dislike for belly cut guitars?

Personally, I've never enjoyed the belly cut. It always puts the guitar at an awkward angle, and the whole "doesn't cut into your rib cage" thing is really alien to me, I've never experienced that with any guitar I've played.

The front cut on Strats make more sense to me, as they actually seem to add something to the instrument, other than just coesmetics. Still not worth IMO, the rounded body edges is is enough to keep me from ripping up skin on my wrist.

Really, the real Iron Maiden would be a let down after that. Girls didn't play guitar like that when I was growing up. Damn, they're good.
