why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see the appeal in clean situations: it feels like a setting where the sound of the guitar itself comes through, without the brightening or darkening from the outer pickups to interfere.

I, however, am of the Blackmore school: the bright and the dark sound are what I need (dark optional); the middle ground I don't really have much use for.

Nice Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, not mine, but wish it was!

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am finalizing mods to a new Strat and I am hoping that the Dimarzio Area 58 i placed in middle position will sound good enough to use on its own. TBD.

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a Strat I like the Eric Johnson tone mod, where you leave the middle pickup wide open, and connect the second tone knob to the bridge pickup. I think it makes the bridge pickup more versatile for leads, and I tend to use the bridge pickup more than the middle. So it just makes sense. If you use the middle in combination with either of the other two you get tone control, and wide open it doesn’t sound too bad.

I attach the neck and the middle pickup to the neck tone control with a .022 cap and the bridge pickup goes to what was the middle tone with a .018.

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In an HSH it is great to go to middle single coil for clean rythm then to HBs to play sone notes that better stand out in the mix. For me in an HSH guitar I don't need the middle SC to match the output of the HBs, that is not how I use them. On SSS strats, thats a different story, I want the output balance for a nice notch position sound.

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a blues rock SRV-wannabe, I’m obligated to start on the neck pickup, then play no more than 4 notes without switching the pickups and dorking with the knobs. As such, I use all 5 a lot, and love the middle, but not as much as the neck.

I also prefer the EJ tone control setup.

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the middle position on a Strat is a very useful pick up in sound and tone. It adds more variety to the neck & bridge pick up and by itself. If some of you don't like the middle position you can always have the option of lowering the middle pick up right flat even with the pick guard just like Blackmore does on his Strat.;)

This is essentially what I do. But I use the middle only in conjunction with the neck or bridge.

why aren't you at your day job?

Ya know you can put multiple quotes in one post and don't have to clutter up the thread?

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really dig the middle position on a Strat—use it a lot. I think it’s a great time for Rythm playing personally—use the Neck and Bridge for Leads.

No, thanks Christopher. Do I just wait till I'm done reading whole thread, then how do I address each person? Every time I don't put quote with reply, it goes in between OPs posts and they're WTF you talking about? I would love to not see that friggin avatar every time I turn around, and I know everyone else feels the same. Thanks for telling me; now tell me how :smash:

Re: why you no like midle position on strat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t usually like the middle position on Strats, and I don’t really like it in my Ibanez that has an EMG SA, or in my Soloist that has Hot Rails. Compared to neck and bridge positions, the middles tend to sound hard, congested, and non-elastic. I really like the notch positions, though, which fix all those problems and bring the characteristic quirkiness beloved by millions of sensible players. The neck and bridge, of course, are iconic Strat sounds that the model fairly banks on. The middle pickup by itself is like Forman on That 70’s Show.

When you post multiple quotes it's possible to put text in between the quotes. Just hit enter twice after where it says "[/QUOTE]" and keep on writing.
