Wilkinson pickups? And also about soapbar P90's in dogear covers...

Hey guys...

I need some replacement pickups for my Epi Wildkat, after I destroyed one of them in a "unfortunate potting accident".

Thing is, I'm on a budget. I hope it isn't a huge offense to discuss other brand pickups on here-

I found some very cheap, new pickups called "Wilkinson", for 1/10th of the retail price a SD is here. I remember playing a semi-budget guitar that came with "wilkinsons" and it sounded allright to me.

My stock pickups are mounted inside gold-plated metal covers, "dogears"- but the wilkinson replacements come either as alnico soapbars, or ceramic plastic dogears. (latter which I don't think will fit anyway). And I prefer the alnico tone.

Is it so, that you can take a soapbar P90 out of the soapbar cover, and mount it into a dogear shell? Will the pole pieces line up?

Thanks you all,

-Erlend

Looks Chinese made. They're all over Ali Baba. Could be great, or not. GFS and Dragonfire are a couple of cheaper brands that I've had success with. GFS pickups are apparently made by C&B in... Korea? C&B makes cheaper pickups for a variety of companies including PRS' SE line.

I wouldn't count on anything lining up. Differences seem to run in the millimeters and it has to be exactly perfect to line up.

You can look at the used market too. Not sure about shipping costs to Norway.

Ok. I've found real "stock" Epiphone dogears on ebay, I've just have been having trouble with two things-

getting paypal to work, and also shipping to Norway.

Dogears and soapbars use the same coils but mounted on different base plates.
Base plates are available separately and if you're ambitious you can swap a P90 coil onto another base plate; it isn't complicated.
Pole spacing can vary, so it's important to make sure the new covers will fit your pickup.

I have one guitar that came with cheap Wilkinson humbuckers.
I expected needing to swap them out right away but these sound good.
I'd rate them as better than the stock Chinese humbuckers that came in my Epiphone Explorer.
