Wilkinson split nut question

I'm cleaning up my friend's 1987 Strat Plus. It has the Wilkinson split nut. When I restring it, is there a particular way to thread it through?

Must have been a bit of confusion at the Fender factory the day they printed this one.
The stringing procedure is fine,but the diagram points to a maximum string gauge of 11-49 and the note above it says a maximum of 10-46.
Guess the R&D department and Product Information are just gonna have to fight it out!!
