How would describe one vs the other from the perspective of tone, functionality and price ? I assume build quality is about the same ..
Thanks.

Re: Wilkinson vs. Schaller

Wilkinson is one of the brands that belong to the giant Korean holding Jin-Ho, maker of most of budget-oriented guitar parts, and Schaller is a German company making several of the best guitar parts there are. Both companies make several different products but are directed to complete opposite sides of the market, so... what are you specifically talking about?

Trev Wilkinson retired from the business. Wilkinson parts are now made under license by Gotoh, also a maker of high quality parts, including Tone Pros. And a bit more modern than Schaller.

Personally I think they have very nice designs, especially their trem. I used to use Schaller parts, was even a Schaller dealer, but these days it’s all Gotoh and Hipshot.

Re: Wilkinson vs. Schaller

What are we comparing? Both companies make an assortment of different products.

Re: Wilkinson vs. Schaller

Exactly, what are we comparing? Bridges?

The Schaller Lockmeister is a perfect clone of the "Original" Floyd Rose, which they also produce. Can't go wrong with it for a locking trem.

Schaller's two-point non-locking trems are nicely finished, solid and work great.

Wilkinson products come in a range from budget to premium. The Wilkinson bridges made by Gotoh are among the best bridges available anywhere and have a great range of adjustment.

Wilkinson tuners, however, are only available in the budget option and are nowhere near as nice as the German-made Schaller tuners, for example.

Re: Wilkinson vs. Schaller

Schaller-branded items are generally one of the costliest hardware options available

Wilkinson is budgety midrange, although they have some interesting patented designs of their own...

PS do note the almost ubiquitous use of "Schaller" when Schaller-style copy is actually meant for things like locking tuners...same can apparently apply to Wilkinson-designed bridges, where it's actually Wilkinson-licensed. In that case Wilkinson Gotoh Japan good, Wilkinson Korea OK, Wilkinson China --- probably lowend or fake or both

Re: Wilkinson vs. Schaller

Well, I want build quality. Non locking tremolo or single locking tremolo, with tone impact = warm/cross over between a classic six screws and classic floyd. I am already using Schaller locking tuners.

Wvp6 Wilkinson trem I bought recently was a bit underwhelming. I also have Wilkinson EZ-Lok tuners in two guitars which are great.

People seem to like Wilkinson trems though, so it might be thet particular model is just poor. Ones with the intonatio screws on top seem solid, but are probably painfully annoying to intonate...
