Will 11's put to much pressure in Drop D on a 24 3/4" neck?

Re: Will 11's put to much pressure in Drop D on a 24 3/4" neck?

It should be safe for the guitar though, I recomend if you are going to install 11's, you will need a truss rod adjustment because the 11's will have a little more string tension and you will have to use the truss rod to straighten out the the neck.. Nothing to worry about.

Ah okay, so I get my guitar set up for a string set like the ernie ball beefy set it should be okay foreven standard tuning?

I am not sure what guage strings beefy slinkys are but, They should be fine with standard tuning and a proper setup. I know the 11's will not be a problem.

11s could be used easily for standard tuning, so dropped tuning's no problem
I'm sure EB makes strings specifically for dropped tuning, though

you'll be fine...i use D'Addario 11's on a 25.5" strat tuned to E with no poblems and also a set of 11-14-18-36-52-70 ghs zakk wylde strings on a 25.5" strat tuned to drop C and it will go up to D also but no higher.

The Beefy Slinkys & Not Even Slinkys are billed as being "ideal for downtuning" or something like that, but honestly, that's just marketing bullsh*t. It's just a heavier set, and you could tune down a set of 10s just as easy as 11s.

For reference, the Beefy slinky set is 11,15,22(p),30,42,54. Pretty cool overall, but that plain 22 sucks. The Not Even Slinky set (12-56) has a plain 24! :saeek:

Go for 11s. Actually, if drop D is your game, give the 10-52 set a shot.

I mostly play in Drop C and Drop D I just wanted to make sure the neck on my new axe-to-be will not explode from the pressure of being in Drop D! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Will 11's put to much pressure in Drop D on a 24 3/4" neck?

Remember, back in the day, there was no such thing as light guage strings, and most everybody tuned to standard. You could probably put 13s on it in standard, and not do any damage, so long as it's a quality instrument.

I play 12-52 in standard, and have no problems on any axe. If the guitar is properly set up you shouldn´t hae any either ;)

Will it hurt the guitar, ...no ...
Will it be okay, ... no ... if you are inquiring that you can just set the truss rod for heavier gauge of strings and then later change those strings to another gauge, and or tuning then you have to readjust the truss rod.
String gauges cause different amounts of tension upon the neck, so to do different tunings ... you set the truss rod up (really entire set up) according to what gauge and tuning you are going to use. Anything else is a compromise.
