Will a Duncan Distortion Trembucker sit right in a Les Paul?

I have a Trembucker spaced Distortion that I was thinking of putting in the bridge of My Les Paul standard faded. Will it sound okay and line up properly, I know these usually go in fender spaced type guitars.

gibson bridge spacing is wider than SD's regular spacing and not quite as wide as SD's trembuckers - it's in the middle
it'll be fine, your bass strings will line up better than your high strings, instead of the other way around

Re: Will a Duncan Distortion Trembucker sit right in a Les Paul?

As he said, on most modern Gibsons the stings are spaced wider @ the bridge than on most vintage Gibsons. As a result many modern Gibsons line up better with a trembucker than with a standard spaced Humbucker.

The best way to measure for a trembucker is to measure the spread of the high e strings at the height of the bridge pickup. If it`s under 2" (51 mm) a standard spaced pickup will line up better. If it´s 2" or over, a trembucker will line up better ;)

But measurement or not, it should work fine. May not line up perfectly, may have a slight output drop on the e strings as a result, but should be fine.

i didn't think of that, that's a great way to tell which way to go.
thanks for the tip

Bumping this thread since it was from 2009. I have a 2013 Trad Pro. Have folks put TB's in LPs and had success? Any loss of anything?

Post 1998 Les Pauls need a little wider pick up than the regular humbuckers. The right dimension for a bridge pickup in a post 98 gibson is the DiMarzio F-spaced one, that sits in between the regular SD humbucker and the SD TB. in fact DiMarzio F-spaced pickups measure 2.01" (51 mm), standard-spaced pickups measure 1.90" (48 mm) while Seymour Duncan Trembuckers measure 2.07" (52.5 mm) and regular humbuckers measure 2.00" (50.75 mm). I installed a regular SD humbucker (a C8) in my 2004 standard. There is no need to put a TB in the bridge slot because it is not necessary for the strings to pass exactly over the center of the polepieces for best performance, but it is wise to avoid a situation where the E strings are sitting completely outside of the outer polepieces.

As long as it's uncovered, it will fit fine, but the coils will come very close to the ring so just take care while adjusting height.

Thanks for the reply. So are you saying it's OK to put a TB in the bridge of a Les Paul?

Taking into account the advice of beaubrummels, yes you can. Just to know which TB are you going to install?
