will i blow something up

if i used a 400ma output to power a pedal that requires 300ma? been looking into power supplies, mondo and mc403 being the frontrunners. id love a PP2+, BUT i dont like the doubling of two 9v to power an 18. thats the only flaw i see with PP2+, so im looking at the mondo or CAE.

Re: will i blow something up

Nope. The output power rating is a maximum. You only need to make sure the PS can supply at least as many mA as the pedal wants, assuming of course that the voltages match.

Re: will i blow something up

Current rating on a power supply is the maximum it can put out, but it can also provide less if required.

If your power supply is rated 400 mA and the pedal draws 300 mA, the pedal will get 300 mA

If your power supply is rated 400 mA and the pedal draws 500 mA, the pedal will get 400 mA (and probably won't work).

In either case, neither the pedal nor the power supply will be damaged.

There are two ways a power supply can damage a pedal: if the voltage is too high, or if the polarity is reversed.

ah i see, thank you. oddly enough its the flashback x4 im tryin to get onto some power. what are you using with yours Ratherdashing?

Re: will i blow something up

even tho it says its output is 250ma? thats what im reading at least.

I thought it was 300 mA.

Regardless, in my experience, Voodoo Lab underrates their power supplies, and I've been able to run even 400 mA pedals off their high current lines.

Re: will i blow something up

I should also add that it's likely most pedals don't actually draw as much current as they say they do, at least not all the time.

Re: will i blow something up

Here's the PPII + specs. It does say 250mA max on the high current 9V outputs. It may work, but I know the regular PPII won't

What you probably should invest in is the new PP 4X4. It costs $189, but it's better equipped to handle high current pedals and various voltages.

i will gander that, thanks man

well as long as it works without any issues with PP2+

Re: will i blow something up

so if i were hook a regular 9v pedal that draws 100ma up to the 400ma out of the mondo, it will just put out 100ma? no stuff getting blown up?
