Will I hurt my speaker

Reckless Abandon

USing my 100 watt marshall I am using a Gt12-75 and a gh12-30. I know each should be at least 50 watts. I run the master on no higher than 3 and the gain on about 8. Will it hurt the 30 watter?

Re: Will I hurt my speaker

It might be safe but I'd rather play it safe.

A lot of Marshalls can put out well over their rated power when distorted and peaks when playing clean could exceed that rating as well.

Also keep in mind that impedance is frequency-dependent and that there are times where the 30W speaker might be getting more than 50% of the power that the amp puts out.

Finally, the conditions that would fry the 30W speaker with 50% of the power would be close to the max for the 70. Assuming the speakers are in parallel, you might end up taking out the 70 if the 30 blew and have the bonus of potentially blowing the output transformer running the amp that high without a load. If the speakers are in series, you run that risk even if the 70 doesn't get fried.
