Will the lil 59 in strat bridge play nice with tex mex?

Re: Will the lil 59 in strat bridge play nice with tex mex?

since its already on its way, throw it in and see what you think. i much prefer the lil59 to the lil screamin demon

I love the Stat H/S combo of a JB in the Bridge with a Lil 59 in the neck. I currently have a H/S/H Strat with a Lil Screamin Demon in the mid, sounds awesome. I like the SD lil pickups...give it a try to see how it sounds–you may be pleasantly surprised.

EDIT: Just saw you didn't like it. +1 To the suggestions on height adjustment, see if this doesn't help and then maybe go with a different pickup if it doesn't get what you are looking for.

The stock Fender Tex-Mex humbucker is a cheaply assembled affair. If you have access to a HSS pickguard, consider the Pearly Gates Plus. (Made by SD. Sold exclusively by Fender.)

I understand what you are saying about the Li'l '59. I have the Tele version in a G&L Tribute series ASAT Classic. 2.5mm low E, 2mm high E. It rawks and still manages to twang a bit. It took a Hot Rails neck position pickup to keep up with it.

The lil 59 is a fine pickup, it's just not my thing. I'm glad I tried it tho. Sounds like its more suited to go into a telecaster.
I really like the tex mex single coils actually, just need to find something hum cancelling without sacrifising typical strat tone for bridge position.

Hmm, I've never tried the Lil 59 in the bridge position of a Strat, but I have the Lil Screamin Demon and it had a great Stratty tone, bright pickup with great harmonics.

Thanks for chiming in. I just got back from 3 weeks atlanta and I loved it over there! Man those hotwings and steaks made me gain some pounds haha ;)

I just learned that the lil bucker series are not my cup of tea tbh. Not for this guitar, its my first 'real' strat and I want it to stay stratty. It was a fun experiment and I learned a lot.

Ha! Atlanta definitely has some great food options but for Steaks I would suggest a trip to Texas ;) lol

Are you going to put the original pickup back in?

I typically go with Humbuckers; however, I love Fender Fat 50's single coils...bell-like chime and amazing tone. I don't know what the store's policy is; perhaps you can get your money back or trade it for another pickup?

Re: Will the lil 59 in strat bridge play nice with tex mex?

Oh I send it back and will get a refund.
This store doesnt have many other options for me to look at so I'm researching a bit more to see what will actually work for me and then order it through ebay probably.

I have 2 other humbucker guitars, I want a single coil guitar too for those funky/bluesy tunes. I just joined a new coverband so I need the diversity in my arsenal, single coil hum is a problem though.

Have you looked at Dimarzio's lineup? They have quite a few noiseless Strat options, although I haven't tried any myself.

Re: Will the lil 59 in strat bridge play nice with tex mex?

How about the STK line? It seems like spec wise a STK-4Sb would do what i look for and balance nicely with the other pickups?
Cant find any good clip on it in the bridge but this clip comes really close!

i like the stk4 a lot. i use the stk4s set in one guitar, the stk4s neck and middle with a stk7 in the bridge and a stk4b in the neck, stk4m middle and stk9b bridge. they all are good sets. the all stk4 set is the most vintage correct but i do like the stk7 in the bridge better than the stk4b

Do you think the stk-7 will balance out with the 2 tex mex? Specwise it seems equally as hot as the lil 59.

I dont see any retailer in my country selling it though, only the stk-s4 :( ?

i think the stk7 will balance fine but so will the stk4b. the difference is tone, the stk4b is bright and similar to a vintage strat single coil. the stk7 isnt as bright and has more mids. the stk7 still sounds like a strat pup, not a humbucker.

Re: Will the lil 59 in strat bridge play nice with tex mex?

Just a quick update, I decided to keep the lil 59 as it sounded pretty good during band practice. It cuts nicely through the mix and has a nice growl going on. It does sound rather tame when you want to start digging in for heavier stuff but I need to run it through a properly OD boosted gain channel yet. It really does sounds like a humbucker 'light' :).

Really good pickup! Time will tell if it stays in the strat. For now I've grown to love it.
