Re: Will the real Bill Lawrence please stand up?
I just read this thread again and had to comment on this post.
Bill doesn't make each pickup individually - that qualifies as an urban myth. He has family members and employees who make the bobbins, wind the pickups (on machines) and solder the leads. I remember an update on his website a couple years ago stating that they hired and trained some extra folks to help wind pickups because of the backlog. So apparently, the pickups aren't always wound by folks with much experience.
And the story about "fake" pickups and their poor quality also qualifies as a myth. But that's already been covered above.
the_Chris said:Here's the problem. It seems dealers are selling "Bill Lawrence" pickups that are fake. Yes, I said that correctly, fake. I've heard multiple cases of pickups being sold on forums and on eBay that don't sound good and they aren't made by Bill. I have no idea who's bright idea it was to make fake ones and I think dealers that are selling them should be shut down (and fined accordingly).
Bill and Becky are your typically "mom and pop" shop. Bill individually does each one and thus the lead times on them can be a few weeks....
