Will this Pickup Combination Work? (First Post)

Hi guys!

First post on the forums, signed up mainly because I want to learn as much as possible about guitars, really want to learn more about the technical side i.e. pickups and whatnot.

I'm purchasing a Kramer Pacer Classic shortly (http://www.gallinsmps.com.au/kramer-pacer-classic-pw-pearl-white.html), and it comes with a pair of Alinco V Humbuckers.

I'm looking to purchase two Seymour Duncan Pickups to replace these two pickups, and through research have tentatively decided on a SEymour Duncan SH-1 59 Model Humbucker for the Neck Pickup and a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Model Humbucker for the Bridge Pickup.

This pickup combination is used by Satchel of Steel Panther with the same/similar model of guitar i'm looking to purchase (Kramer Pacer Classic), and other glam metal/hair metal guitarists also use this combination, so I'm quite confident the combination would work, but just wanted a second opinion.

...or third/fourth/fifth too ;)

Let me know what you think,
Thanks guys! :)

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, the JB/'59 pair will work.

First, however, you need to check the guitar very thoroughly. Changing the pickups will invalidate your warranty.

Thank you!

Thought so, thank you!

Ahh, good point. Will definitely keep that in mind. Cheers Funkfingers!

Welcome to the forum! I'll agree with Funk up there, the JB/59 combo is the perfect glam/hair metal combo. I do have a couple other tidbits of advice for you, particularly regarding asking for help on this forum.

First off, most guys (myself included) will tell you that you should get the guitar in your hands and try it out stock for a while before deciding if you need to replace the pickups or not. This is due more or less to different instruments having different tonal qualities, and at that point only you can decide what the guitar needs. Whether that may be more mids, a bit less output, a rounded high end; coming to us with this with this info is much more helpful, and can lead to a better suggestion. In this case though, I think you will be satisfied with a switch right away.

It also helps to tell us what amp you are using, and whether you want your pickups to help drive the amp, or allow you to clean it up when you want. Listing any overdrive, distortion, or Fuzz pedals you use is also helpful.

You'll get a lot of different opinions, here and elsewhere on the Internet and in real life, but remember that the only one that really matters is yours. Trust your ears, and have fun. Happy playing!

Thanks Nacho!

Sound advice, will take some time for me to earn the money necessary to purchase said pickups after purchasing the guitar, so that'll give me some time to do what you've suggested.

Thank you! :)

Good advice so far.
I prefer the Pearly Gates neck pickup.
Unfortunately it's a bit more expensive than the 59 but I think it's worth it.
