Will this work?

Replacing the pups in my EPI ES-175.

I want to put in a Phat Cat in the neck w/ a TV Jones Classic filtertron in the bridge.

I'm a noob to the technical side of this and wondering if I'm creating a hum machine or maybe this is too complicated to pull off.

Thanks for any advice!

welcome to the forum!!

should work fine. the phat cat will hum a little in a noisy room but all single coils do that, its the nature of the beast. i use single coils all the time and very seldom is the 60 cycle a problem.

the filtertron is a humbucker so no issues with noise there

Thanks, I wasn't sure if this would develop some sort of polarity issue creating a rip in space sucking my amp into a black hole something.

That being said, a little hum doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Will this work?

I have a HB/Phat Cat pair in a 335 & a SG, and would like to do it in a LP. Works great. Very simple to do. Just wire the PC like any normal single conductor HB. PC's seem to have less noise than P-90's (more shielding?) so it's not an issue.

This is really a great idea & should be offered standard on a lot of guitars. The HB gives mids & warmth to the bridge where it's needed, and the PC opens up the neck & takes away some of the muddiness that you sometimes get with a neck HB. Uses each type of PU where it's virtues shine.
