Will Vintage Amps hit obscene prices someday?

Re: Will Vintage Amps hit obscene prices someday?

The irony is that the really valuable models -- 50s LPs, teles, tweed amps -- were standard models when they were made. Yes, they were trying to make the best product they could, but they weren't "special" editions. It's also ironic that LPs died for lack of interest and low sales, which made the vintage ones even more valuable due to their rarity.

If necessity is the mother of invention then irony must be the twisted uncle.

And what happens when the Baby Boomers start dying off? If I did my math correctly they're 60 this year. The life expectancy of a male in the US is mid 70's. You have 15-20 years to make your fortune. More if we're healthy or lucky.

That's the speculation. Very collectible gear is like to be put back into the market as they start liquidating for retirement portfolios or passing away entirely.

There will always be some fluidity to it. However as an age group that were typically only able to afford one thing that was in limited quantities seems likely to unload or die the potential exists for more to be available in the market which, in turn drives the price down.

There are a ton of factors involved. With the rise in world population is the number of guitar players remaining what it was before percentage-wise? Are there going to be more people actually looking to acrue that gear? With the proliferation of DJ's and hip-hop as well as metal becoming very mainstream at times are those peices going to be desirable amongst them?

I thank God for folks like Scott_F that do players an incredible service and make fantastic vintage-voiced gear available. They truly are the best of both worlds. Even if the market spikes I know that folks like him can still make something that's going to give the same result tonally as the original. No, it's not a collectors peice as the original vintage, but it is something that players like myself can get into and actually play with and gig with and know that as great an amp as it is, were doing with it what was meant to be done with it; play the heck out of it in bars, clubs, jams and anywhere else!

I do not care what the price will become...

I am holding on to my Holand Little Jimi, Celtic Edana, Fender amps (All of them), Marshall JTM-45, JTM-45 RI, JCM800.

Sold and would not buy again Mesa Boogie DC-3, DC-5, DC-10, and Mark IV.

Has Guild Thunderbass stolen back in 1974, anyone find it yet?
