Winfeild Thomas Amps

I'm thinking about these amps, I play alot of Pearl Jam, grunge and classic rock.

These amps are suppose to be tone machines. My guitar teacher swear by them. I really like his sound. I just sort of would like a few more opinions. Anyone else heard of them? http://www.rfd.cc/winamp/

I would definately choose the 30 watts over the 18. 18 won't be loud enough unless you mic it. 30 Watts for point to point class a amp is pretty loud, I mean a lot louder than you think. I would recommend comparing the sound to other ptp amps like budda or Carr before buying. If you can't find a boutigue amp to compare it to then you might be able to get sound clips off the web. I think that Pearl Jam uses savage amps, which are touted as great amps. I think the price is excellent for the head, but the wiring seems a little sloppy and would concern me personally. Buying a boutique amp should occur after much consideration.

Would you say loud enough for my 5 peice band? Unmiked drums, I forget how many watt bass amp, but 15 inch speaker, a 50 watt solid state amp with a 12 inch, and another player with a 60 watt with to 2 12s.

Pearl Jam I know uses old plexi's, bassmans, a new amp custom built by their guitar techs, Trentino, Savages. Alot of stuff in short.

A class A 30 watt amp through a 2x12 would blow a 50 watt SS out of the water, not to mention a 50 watt. I wouldn't worry about the bass because if your other guitarist are over the bass than you definately will be. My marshall dsl 401(40 watt tube) is more than twice as loud as my friends SS 50 watt marshall, and it sounds uncomparably better.

Would I be able to keep up though with some headroom?

Re: Winfeild Thomas Amps

I have the last November Winfield amp Winne made. First of all, he is a nice guy and easy to deal with. If you ever have a problem with the amp (I haven't) he will fix it to keep you happy. I disagree with the opinion that the wiring is sloppy.

Yes the amp with keep up with drums and bass. It is a very, and I mean very, loud amp for thiry watts. Plus, it sounds great. Winnie also gives you a 3 day listening guarantee. If you don't like it send it back. How many others let you do that.

Anyway, it's a good amp and a great value for the money.

This is definately a better picture than the one I viewed of the wiring. If you like it, go for it. Go to Mojaveampworks.com and you'll see what I was thinking when I said it seems a little sloppy. Check out the gallery. But, no matter what it seems the winfield is a lot bang for the buck.
