Winged =C= vs Bugera EL34 (clip)

ok i know this isnt the most perfect comparison.
my friend cant tell the difference after listening 5 times.
on my system i can but i have good mid rangey speakers that are effective for stringed instruments.

i set the bias for each kind the best for that particular power tube.
the bugeras seem louder and need less bias to be full,
winged c's need more bias.

i know there are circumstance that im sure things would be different.
the tone is raspy and grungy i know.

to my ears the Winged =c='s have more overdrive in the upper mids, and less thump.

the Bugera EL34s have less width and seem to be more 3D sounding? problem is i cant tell if that 3D sound is making them less full?
also they seem to have less high end range, but that almost makes them sound smoother. i would say they have less drive to them and a clearer signal, but that may not be a good thing idk.

test 1 (the same riff plays twice, first is winged c's, second bugera)

test 2 (the same riff plays twice, first is winged c's, second bugera)

if you need them to be separated with vocal confirmation

test 2 with vocal changing of power tubes

First off, I'm diggin' the hell out of that tone!
I have a pretty good monitor system, I can tell a bit of a difference.
I think you are right about the less width. The winged c's seem fuller to me, A lot more depth. The bugera's really aren't that bad, It just sounds like they loose a bit of umph.
On stage in the mix, you would never know the difference.

thanks bro about the tone! marshall dsl100 with two boosts in front, one feeding the other and set to accept and enhance the first boost.
only way i can saturate the gain enough.

yeah, i put the winged =c='s back in and just by instinct i feel that is the right choice. bugeras are good for what they are but i dont think they are a matched set, infact i dont think they give a hoot and make no reference to any of there amps to having matched power tube sets in them. and these winged =c='s are a matched quad so it just makes sense to use these for even more reasons than just the sound.

To me clip 1 sounds better, but I like it raspy/textured.
It's difficult to tell though because it's 2 different riffs you play.

Nice tones.

actually each test has two different power tubes in each clip.
the riff plays twice, first time is winged c's, second is bugera

then the same idea for clip 2 make sense?

Re: Winged =C= vs Bugera EL34 (clip)

I'm having trouble determining when in the clips the tubes change. They are short with no discernible break. Am I missing something? The tone on both clips is good though. For me, I would need longer clips, same riff's and an interlude where the tube changeover is obvious.

No difference worth writing home about to my ears. Tone rocks man.

see if this helps?

Barely any difference to my ears. I can hear a difference through my headphones but none at all on my computer speakers. Nothing major.

And yeah, that tone is ****ing great. Really thick and nasty in an oh so delicious way.
