Wireless Guitar Systems

I'm about to invest in (I mean blow some of my hard earned cash on) a wireless system to hook my guitar up to my amp. Just started looking at choices on the market and talking to mates. Has anyone got any experience in these systems they would be happy to share. I'm just as interested in what you have tried that didn't work as the ones you are interested in.

I play mainly small venues and move around alot so the radio noise will vary a lot.

Any input is most welcome.

Re: Wireless Guitar Systems

Cheers, reading old messages on Shure there used to be criticism of them that they compressed the sound too much. Do you (does anyone) know if thats still a problem or if the problem applies to their SLX range??

Re: Wireless Guitar Systems

I used someones AKG guitar bug on Saturday night. I was pretty impressed at the unit to be honest. If you arent familiar, its similar to the samson Airline series. Anyways, he hands me the wireless adaptor out of his strat, and me thinking its a samson goes "dude, will that fit in my gibson, or will it be jetting out?" Then he rotated the thing down and bada bing, perfect fit. I liked that aspect of the guitarbug, it'll fit any style jack.

Downsides? Well I've been hearing mixed reviews on the spring-loaded plug system. Some claim it works great keeping the plug in the guitar, others say its not strong enough. Also, some complaints about the rotating part of it being too loose, and bouncing off of the guitars if you're too intense while playing. All I know is there's no way I'm letting a wireless thing bounch off of the face or sides of any of my guitars. But aside from those two worries, it was a great little unit. Maybe you could find a way to lock the swivle in place and it'd be pretty good.

my friend has one, it's really cool. i've been eyeing them down, just never cared enough. if i were to get a guitar with 2 output plugs then i would definately want one so i'm not running the 2 cords opposite ways.

i haven't seen you yet and i'm sure someone's said this buuuuuut..... hi, welcome to the forums

Re: Wireless Guitar Systems

I got the SLX14 bundle. Been playing with it for a week and it it really good so far. Very pleased and about to get the mic that runs the same system.

Re: Wireless Guitar Systems

I have been running the Shure ULX-S for a few years now and it has always run flawlessly and sounds great. I also bought the rack adapter with the front side antenna kit so that it is always ready to go and is safe from damage.

Re: Wireless Guitar Systems

I have an old Samson VLP series for more than 20 years and the thing is still alive and kicking. One good thing about the wireless system is that you rarely worry about the instrument cable going bad and you don't worry about tripping over it neither. It gives you freedom to go around tight places too. I don't notice if there is any tone difference between using the wireless system or the instrument cable.
