wiring diagram differences

I am having problems wiring my EMG pickups correctly. I have never had a problem wiring passive pickups and I was even able to install and 89 in my SG however I cannot get sound out of my Viper when I tried to install an 89 and an 85. It has 1 tone 1 volume and a 3 way switch. The diagram on this page http://www.emginc.com/downloads/wiringdiagrams/EMG-89.pdf shows a way to wire the tone which I have not seen before (the middle of the volume pot goes to the middle tone terminal with a resistor). On another diagram http://www.emginc.com/downloads/wiringdiagrams/Humbuckers_active.pdf the wiring seems like the more standard way to wire it. Can someone with wiring experience please review the first way and assure me that it will work; because I have been trying this for a few hours and cannot get sound. The other thing that is strange about the first diagram is the way the hot wire of the 89 is wired. It is different in the 1 vol 1 tone example than the rest. Can someone offer any advice.

In the first diagram, (segment 5C), I believe they may have a typo. Under normal circumstances, I would say they've just done the "50's mod" on the tone control, but they have the output of the pup on the "wrong" lug of the volume control. I put -wrong- in quotes because I'm not familiar with EMG wiring, and maybe they did that on purpose. But it doesn't make sense to me. Isn't that an active pickup? If it is, it means they've shorted the output to ground when the volume is down all the way. Thats generally not a good thing to do with an active (voltage producing) output.

But I'm speaking purely from theory here. You can certainly wire it up as shown in the second diagram with no problems. Thats how I'd do it.

Thank you for the help artie. That is what happened when I wired my sg. I used the first diagram and my guitar did not work. Then I used the second diagram and it worked. I have never seen wiring like the first diagram and was wondering if I was alone. The tech support at EMG said it is correct, but I am sceptical as to why there are discrepencies.

Artie would you please look at one more aspect of the diagram for me. I would wire it like the second example except I am a little confused with the coil splitting aspect (this diagram is for the non-splitting humbuckers). In 5A and 5B (first link 89) there is a wire going from the middle of the volume terminal to the middle left contact on the switch. Diagram 5C does not have the jumper, it just takes the HOT wire off the middle terminal. Do you know why they did this? I need to make a hybrid of the 2 wirings because I want to use the second wiring, but I also need to know how to wire the split pot for the 89 correctly.
