Wiring diagram help for Tele needed

I want to try a wiring setup on my Tele and I'm not sure how to proceed. I want the 1&3 positions normal, but the 2 position to be both pickups in series out of phase. Does anybody know where I can find this diagram, or draw one up? The pickups are Fender Custom Shop 51 Nocaster set, or I may try it on my Stock MIM.

Re: Wiring diagram help for Tele needed

You can get the series aspect from an overlooked classic schematic diagram that lurks in the Tech Tips area. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/schematics/schematics.php?schematic=spr96tip

Phase reversal can be achieved by simply deliberately connecting up the conductors of one pickup in reverse order.

Since it will be necessary to add a third conductor to the neck pickup anyway, it might as well be the neck pickup that does the switching stuff.

Alternatively, borrow the Fender Baja Tele circuit idea. Four-way selector switch combines the pickup coils. An on-on switch reverses the phase.

Regardless of whether you use a DPDT toggle or a push-pull pot, the phase switch goes in circuit before the selector switch.

I think this is what I was looking for, 1 Bridge 2 Bridge and neck in series 3 neck. I'll just swap the leads on the neck for out of phase. I might try the 4 way with the mini toggle phase switch in the future though. Thanks for the help.

Re: Wiring diagram help for Tele needed

The permanent link between the two pickups in your proposed diagram means that the neck pickup always has a path to ground. Consequently, it is always on, regardless of selector switch position.

Also, even when the bridge pickup uses the red output wire, it still has a second path to the volume pot input via the neck pickup.

It does have to be the neck pickup that gets reversed and is the second stage in the series interconnection because, on the majority of Telecaster circuits, the black conductor of the bridge pickup is also grounding the bridge and the pickup baseplate.

Re: Wiring diagram help for Tele needed

Well I tried the diagram I put up, and it seems to be working how I wanted. When in the bridge position only th bridge pickup is on and in the middle both are on out of phase, it sounds a little like a cocked wah under gain but still really close to how the bridge sounds by itself
