Wiring Help: CS69s + JB Jr, move Tone to bridge + auto-split!

Hello, there. Today I bought my first Seymour Duncan pickup- the JB Jr (bridge). What a solid pickup. This is also my first post here on this forum. I'm chuffed to join the SD community.

I'm trying to re-wire my Strat to a HSS configuration. I have Fender CS69s in the neck and middle, and plan to install the JB Jr in the bridge. I'm also feeling adventurous so I'd like to attmept the auto-split wiring when the 5-way switch is in Pos 2.

Currently I'm following this particular diagram from the SD website.

Based on my understanding, this diagram assigns Tone knobs to neck and middle. I was wondering how should I modify the diagram to assign the Tone knobs for neck and bridge while keeping everything else intact, please.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I wouldn't do it. The JB Jr. sounds fine on its own, but split it gets weaker.

I think your guitar will sound better with the switch wired stock.

But you might want to move the middle pickup tone control so it works with bridge pickup instead.

I would do that.

Hi @Lewguitar,

Thank you for your response and advice. Okay, I think I will ditch the auto-split idea and go with the stock wiring.

That said, rather than move the Tone from middle to bridge, is there a way to share the Tone between the two? Do I just need to solder a wire between the middle and bridge terminals at the 5-way switch? I'd appreciate if you can be very specific because I solder as if my hands were flippers and would like to get it right in as little tries as possible.

Thank you!

[Edited: I meant "middle and bridge terminals at the 5-way switch"]

You dont really need no split bucker, not with CS69's

Yeah, I eventually didn not split the JB Jr and I'm glad I decided on that. Even with the full stacked humbucker, the output is pretty much in the same ballpark with the CS69s. Thank you.

CS69's are weird that way...

I paired one in a Charvel Rhoads with a Bill Lawrence doublerail (the one SD cloned and called a Dimebucker, forget the BL model name) and... the 69 had similar volume. Crazy stuff.
