Wiring Help needed!! Robert!!!

I am rewiring an EPI Ace Frehley. I am using the Gibson Schematic. The wiring is completely different. The Epi has a wire that connects the Volume control to the corresponding tone pot. And the cap on the tone is on the middle lug and then grounded on the pot. The Gibson Schematic has the Tone control attached to the volume pot with only the Cap connecting them. Which is correct? I figure Id try the Gibson way because it was the only Schematic I could find, plus I figure that a $3500 guitar is prob wired more professionally.
Also, the schematic shows a straight line from one lug to the back of the pot. Is this meaning that I need to put just a lil length of ground wire there? What is the purpose of that??
And lastly, the schematic shows the pickups mounting to the pots and the pickups (middle) wiring the the 3 way, but doesnt show how to connect the wires from the 3 way to the pots.
Any help would be most appreciated! Thanks!!!

wow im confused... :D

the wiring for the cap can be done either way.
the line from the lug to the pot case is a ground wire

heres the part im confused about, are you saying that the pup wires go to the pots, then there is a wire going from the middle tab of the volume pots to the switch? if so thats right. then from the switch you go to the jack, not back to the switch

the pickup wires go to the volume pots. there was a wire that went from the volume pot to the tone pot. The tone cap was mounted with 1 leg attached to the middle lug and one leg grounded to the back of the pot. The gibson diagram (Robert posted it for me on the old forum) has the pots connected only by tone cap. Wish I could post pictures..
Also, I have 3 wires that go to the toggle that Im not sure where they connect to the pickups. I usually replace pups one wire at a time. Remove and replace. But I had to pull all 3 buckers out of this one in a hurry, plus the jack was sloppy and the 3 way (stock EPI) was shot, so I figured Id gut it and wire it right start to finish..

Whether the tone pot is connected to the volume pot via a wire with the cap mounted to the pot OR by the cap itself with the outside terminal of the tone pot soldered directly to the back of the pot will make no difference. Electrically, it's about the same. I'd follow Robert's diagram myself...it's easier and is the way Gibson Les Pauls are wired.

One thing you might want to try is the 50's mod. This will make your pickups a little brighter and less muddy when you roll the guitar's volume control down.

It's very simple: instead of connecting your tone control to the middle terminal of the volume pot, connect it to the middle terminal of the volume pot. ALL of my guitars are now wired this way.

You might like it. If you don't, that's fine...just move the connection to the same terminal of the volume pot that the pickup is soldered to...like you were going to do it in the first place.

Thanks so much for the help! Robert, on the schematic that you sent, look at the tone pots. What is that on the first lug ? Is that supposed to be just a plain piece of wire from the lug to the back?? I assume this if for grounding??
