Wiring help

Anyone got a diagram for a PhatCat in the bridge with 2 singles in the neck and middle with the standard 5 way strat switching? I know how to wire humbuckers and the like but the Phat Cat is a one wire so im not so sure here.

Thanks.

Re: Wiring help

Try the Schaller e-model Megaswitch, Stewmac and most reputable
suppliers will stock it.
It gives all of the standard strat positions except the middle on it's own,
which now becomes bridge and neck like a Tele.
There are some great 3 pickup wiring options out there,
guitarnuts2, guitarelectronics, stewmac, here at Seymour's own site, etc...
Enjoy!

Re: Wiring help

Actually, the Phat Cat is 2-wire, but one wire is in the middle of the other. Once you get the shielding pushed back to reveal the center, just use any standard Strat wiring diagram. The Phat Cat is essentially, a single.

Btw: That should sound great. Let us know.

Ok just checking, i was kind of worried that having the outer shield/ground flopping around inside the cavity would be bad but i guess ill just trim it after i attach it to the back of my pot.

It will be going in a baritone that i made here pretty soon. The stock squier pickups suck for what i want and i had the Phat Cat just laying around so we shall see. Ill probably use GFS ProTubes for the neck and middle though, blasphemy i know but it id like to use some nickle covered p'ups to go with the mirror pickguard.

Well . . . yes, that is kinda bad. Just tie things up with a tie-wrap or some string to hold things in place. ;)

I plan to although i ususlly use a bit of electrical tape myself, but what i was worried about was the shield/ground hitting something metal, such as another pot, and shorting out.

Re: Wiring help

I'd avoid that just to be neat and tidy, but the shielded braid is supposed to be connected to ground. Doesn't matter how, just that it is, so if there's slack and that slack contacts something that is grounded (like the back of another pot), no big deal. What you would want to avoid is that braided shield touching a contact or anything that isn't grounded.
