Wiring Hums for individual control

Sorry

This has got to be an "old" / often repeated question.

If I want independent control of 2 humbuckers when the 3 way toggle switch is in the middle position I would wire the output of middle (#2) lug on the VOLUME pot to the switch and the (#3) lug (the lug on the right when looking at the bottom of the pot) would be wired to the hot of the pickup. Correct?

Now, just want to clarify...which lug does the tone pot get wired to #2 or #3 ? .........or does it matter at all?

Thanks.

Re: Wiring Hums for individual control

Wire the tone control to the same lug that gets the pup hot wire. So, if you use #2 for the pup, and #3 for the output, use #2 for the tone control, and vice-versa.

Thanks ArtieToo

This will give me individual control of the pickups when the switch is in the middle position (i.e., both pickups are selected)
Correct? ( that is, not Les Paul wiring)

Yeah, to a certain degree. You'll always have some interaction problems with dual-vol controls, but there's thousands of git-pickers out there that aren't bothered by it. Its just me. :D

Thanks again

It really bugs me....but guess I'll have to learn to live with it!!

Re: Wiring Hums for individual control

If you want independent volume controls when the 3-way switch is in the middle position, you have to connect the PICKUP to the CENTER lug of the volume pot, and the switch to the outer lug. The connection to the tone control will also go to the middle lug of the volume pot.
