Wiring Issues

One of my guitars was having issues with output on the bridge pickup, it was one of the first guitars I rewired years ago and finally decided to take a look at the issue. The wiring was a rats nest so I went ahead and cut the leads to length so I don't have wires pushing up against everything. Testing the pickups with the pickguard off the guitar everything works great then once I start screwing the pickguard in the bridge pickup has the same issue as before. With a multimeter at the jack I get about 13k ohms then once I push down on the pickguard it goes down to about 6.5k. I figured maybe something was going on with the coil split but both coils are on just at a much lower output. I tried to check to make sure there wasn't a short or something grounding out on the shielding and I cant find the issue. The controls are a 5 way super switch with 1 Vol 1 Tone/Push-pull for split. The neck and middle pickups are unaffected just the bridge so I doubt its the controls. Ill try to take some pictures when I get home and maybe reflow some solder.

Re: Wiring Issues

Also, make sure any of the lugs on the Super Switch are not touching any grounds (like shielding on the pickguard). This is very easy to do and I have had several guitars that did this.

Has it always acted this way?

no it used to work great but I didn't have the guitar with me for about 8 years and it just sat at my parents house, I don't really know what could have caused it

Re: Wiring Issues

Your sig mentions a Zhangbucker with splat option. If it's that guitar/pickup, both coils are on when split, so you still could have the split wire touching shield.

Nah that guitar works fine, i did however resolve the issue, ends up the conductive paint on the cavity was touching the superswitch when i moved the pickguard into place so i just ended up putting a piece of electrical tape over the section the switch is near.
