Wiring mid/bridge SC's in Series, with a switch?

Hey guys; :cool:

I remember that one Strat I had, where I wired the middle & bridge pickups in series. It was a marvelous sound;

-Now I got a Peavey Predator Plus; a funky lil' guitar with S/S/S pickups.

I want to be able to wire the mid/bridge pickups in series, and then return to "normal", with a toggle switch.

Is this possible at all? What kind of switch do I need.

Thanks,

-Erlend :)

Yup. You use the exact same diagram as wiring a humbucker in series/parallel. Use the Blk/Wht of the middle pup in place of the Blk/Wht of the humbucker. Then wire the Blk/Wht of the bridge pup as if they were the Grn/Red respectively.

Here's my favorite way. Doing it like this, you don't have a "dead" position on whatever selector switch you're using, when in series mode.

P.S. That was drawn to be the "bottom" of a push-pull. Down would be parallel, and up would be series. If you use a toggle switch, the contacts are opposite the handle. So toggle down would be series, and toggle up would be parallel. You can just rotate the switch 180 deg's to reverse that order.

I’ll update my post regarding the 10-way Freeway Switch I installed this month on my SSS Strat. It does what you want and more. The concept is fabulous, in theory. Too bad it started failing on me after about two weeks of use. Although the people at Freeway are kind and helpful, I can’t recommend it to you unfortunately, at least the quality of mine was lacking. last week I replaced it with the original 5-way switch.

Thanks alot, sweet ArtieToo! :)

My last question before I start ordering parts- what kind of switch do I need?

thanks!

Any DPDT on-on will work. A simple toggle, slider, or a push-pull. So, anything like any of these three: (Doesn't need to be this company. Just this style.)

Forum software is screwed up. Some of those don't point to what they say. But you get the pic. (I hope.)
