Wiring Q

Hi Everyone,

You guys were very helpful to me when I got frustrated with my tele; I'm back for more.

I put a JB+Jazz in my Fatboy and have run into some issues.

First, the guitar has no juice flowing through it. I touch a wire at different places, including the jack, and I don't even get any popping noises. Does this mean I have a bad jack? (Yes, the amp is on and the cable was tested...;-)

The other thing that is odd is that the jack had only one wire coming off it (hot) that runs to a pot with a cap. There is no dedicated ground from the jack. Is this the problem?

I appreciate your patience with me in this matter. I suck, but I'm trying to learn to fix (and mod) on my own as Hawaii has very few techs...

Aloha

Yup.

(often that wire is shielded, so the braid would be the ground.)

Re: Wiring Q

Thank you.

So, to understand you correctly, this is not a jack problem, but a wiring problem. If I ground the jack, then I should be o.k.?

I appreciate your patience.

Re: Wiring Q

Thanks for your response and the link.

There are also great links for schematics on this site. My problem is that the stock Carvin schematic looks different than what came stock in my guitar.

That's the nature of my problem. I was figuring that one of these well-informed wiring guys could help me figure out how a ground from the input jack could be avoided and whether that can be compensated somewhere else in the circuit.

I don't know enough about circuits to know if it's possible, but it sounds dubious to me. If it's impossible, then it means that something strange is going on in my guitar...

Thanks anyway, you guys. I do appreciate the attention you've given me. I'll try to ground the jack first and see what happens.
