wiring question

I have wired my 335 clone according to the gibson website. I don't understand why when the switch is in the middle position, turning down the neck vol pot reduces the overall vol. I would expect just the neck level to decrease, leaving more treble pu vol.

Any ideas?

Re: wiring question

There's a fix for this. While its not ideal, it works. Look closely at each volume pot. One lug of each is ground. Reverse the leads on the "other" two lugs. (Leave grounds where they are.)

Re: wiring question

I guess I don't completely understand why it works this way. If each pu is wired to it's own vol/tone pot, why would one have more control, or total control over the overall vol?

This is the old Les Paul wiring, which doesn't allow for individual volume control, so you can't blend the PU's together. Easy to change; takes minutes. I don't see why this obsolete wiring method is still used.

Look closely at the diagram. If you bring one volume pot to "zero", you've shorted the output jack "hot" to ground. Its the reason why passive mixers aren't a good idea.

But they aren't going to redesign the Les Paul on my say so.
