wiring question

got a wiring question on my jackson DX10D

it's just a simple schematic:
2 hum
1 tone
1 volume
3 way select

i looked at the diagram, and i'm under the impression the coils of the pickups are wired in series, correct? (silver to red and silver to red?)

if so, what would happen if i wired them in parallel? (red from one pickup to the red of the other pickup, and silver from 1 to silver of other)

just wondering if this is safe/doable/gets good tone.
bored today and feel like experimenting

if this doesn't work, can you recommend alternate wiring options that i can do without having to use switches that will affect tone?

thanks guys

Re: wiring question

If you wire the coils in parallel the pickup will remain humbucking but the tone will be alot more single coil like. It'll be like having two single coils ON and placed right next to each other. It'll be brighter and lower in output. It's actually a very good sound...but series is alot stronger and "better". You could use a on/on/on switch to go from series to parallel to single. I have a switch like that for each humbucker in my Strat with the Pearly Gates and 59 TB. Very useful range of tones. Lew
