wiring question

I have a strat that I am getting ready to change to the hot rodded humbucker set. I plan on using the 5 way switch and wiring it up as the blacktop strat is wired. Postion 1-bridge humbucker; postion 3-bridge & neck humbucker; postion 5 neck humbucker. Postion 2 and 4 are the humbuckers split either front or rear. There are a lot of wiring possibilities. I plan on using 2 stacked concentric pots. I will have a separate volume and tone for the front and rear pickups. My question is...Does a volume turned all the way down give the same affect as not having the humbucker on at all. For instance...in postion 3 both humbucker would be on. If the volume for the bridge is turned all the way down would that have the same tone as position 1.

You can only use double volume pots to turn off one pickup (and not the other) if you connect the pots backwards, like in a Jazz bass. Unfortunately that means that sound changes even more dramatically than normal at positions that are not full open.

Turning down, say, the volume control for the neck position pickup has the effect of silencing every selector position in which any coil of the neck pickup is involved.

NOTE: Recreating the Fender Double Fat / Big Apple circuit requires one pickup to have its magnet inverted and the coil conductors reversed per coil. This is to maintain noise-cancellation in the "inside coils" combination.
