wiring question

Question about a dime with these readings:

17.10k- multimeter on black and green, red and white together.
8.67- multi on green and red
3.8-0 - multi on green and white (starting at anywhere between 3.8-1.2 then decreasing as long as I hold the wires to multimeter

How can I get the full 17.10k reading if the white coil is broken(at least that what I figure)? Shouldn't it fluctuate from around 12 to 8.67?

Re: wiring question

That type of reading usually indicates either of a couple things:

1. Duncan has a cap installed in the coil junction somewhere.

2. You're holding the meter leads to the coil leads with your fingers. Big no-no. ;)

Yup. Did it w/out touching and the coil in question read 0. Was told the pup works in series, but not in #4 position (lot of hum, no sound).

Gonna install it tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks Artie!
