Wiring Schematic for SD SN2, ideas needed pls.

Hi, Guys.
I'm building my second home built guitar. And need some advice re wiring the pickups.

It is going to be Telecaster shaped with a 21fret neck. I've already made the body blank from Brazilian Mahogany with a 6mm quilted maple top. The neck is birdseye maple with a Wenge fretboard.

I've gone for a modern telecaster bridge, Fender Texas Special bridge pickup and have just received my Seymour Duncan Custom mini humbucker (SN2) for the neck.

I will need bridge, neck(single), neck (hum) options. I hope to be able to tap the mini humbucker and use it with bridge pickup. Both in & out of phase (to get a Strat 'quack').

My question is:- Is there a circuit available that will let me acheive this with a 5-way, Strat type selector switch? I really don't want to have to go for a push-push pot if it can be avoided. But I don't discount this to use with a 3-way switch.

Any help is appreciated

Mark, UK.

welcome to the forum!

so you will have a sm2 in the neck and texas special in the bridge right?

i would forget about the out of phase option, without independant volumes it is kinda worthless, very thin, anemic, and trebly. the strat quack comes from two pups being parallel/in-phase wired, not out of phase. its a common misnomer, like a tapped humbucker (you split a bucker, not tap it).

any way if it were me i would wire it up so you would have this:
1- full output neck
2- full output neck and bridge
3- bridge
4- split neck and bridge
5- split neck

which can be done with a std five way switch

Thanks for your advice. It sounds like a good option.

I have found that I'm ok with the carpentry & the soldering, but actually working out the electrics has stumped me a little.

Do you know where I can get a schematic/diagram of the connections needed?

Thanks

Mark

welcome

if it were me i would wire it up so you would have this:

1- full output neck
2- split neck
3- full output neck and bridge
4- split neck and bridge
5- bridge

schematic shouldnt be hard to come by - did you check the schematic library on the SD website?... i assume you are using master volume / master tone?

Re: Wiring Schematic for SD SN2, ideas needed pls.

bill how would you do that with a std five way? can it be done?

Re: Wiring Schematic for SD SN2, ideas needed pls.

Jeremy's right. Both methods yield the same results, just in a different order. Jeremy's way can be done with a standard 5-way, while Bill's needs a Superswitch.

Thanks for this Guys.

Hi Jeremy, do you know where can i find the wiring diagram for this set up. I now understand you can do this with a 5-way switch, but I don't have the knowledge to work out the connections myself.

Cheers

Mark
