Wiring schematic

I have a guitar that i'm putting a dimarzio air zone and heavy blues 2 into and have a 5 way import style switch. I wanted to do:
Bridge HB
Bridge split
Both humbuckers
Neck Split
Neck HB

I looked at the schematics on the website, but they didn't show what tonal combinations they would give me.

Re: Wiring schematic

Isn't the heavy blues a stacked hum canceling single? I'm not so sure there's any benefit to splitting it, unless you're mixing it with another single coil and want to maintain hum-canceling. Am I missing something?

Re: Wiring schematic

alright, well, if the heavy blues has no benefit to splitting, i'll just swap out for a tele 3 way

Re: Wiring schematic

If you add a push-pull pot or mini toggle into the mix you can at least get the humbucker split, and also the ability to keep hum-cancelling in the middle position. Maybe there's a diagram for that somewhere...

nah, it's ok. i'll just do something with what i have or get a 3 way. thanks for the help, though

Re: Wiring schematic

Hey, I think I came up with something that uses a five way. I hate to leave you on a cliffhanger, but it's bedtime. I'll try to sketch out something legible tomorrow.

Can't get those combinations with the import 5-way. I've unsuccessfully tried.

Re: Wiring schematic

I came up with this. First, know that I haven't tested it. I think it will work, but who knows until someone tries it. I sketched it as if you were using two full humbuckers because it was easier for me to visualize the wiring. I used Dimarzio color coding, and kept in mind that only one coil in the Heavy Blues is used for signal while the other is for hum cancelling.

Second, it's probably not the best wiring scheme to use with a humbucker and a single coil. It would work better with two full size humbuckers. The middle position runs one of the bridge bucker coils in series with the single coil. This will likely be much louder than the other settings. Also, positions 3 and 4 will sound basically the same when using a stacked strat pickup in the neck. I still think a 3-way and a coil tap switch would be better, but this should let you use a 5-way.

I think the combinations will work like this:
1) Full bridge humbucker
2) Bridge split (south coil)
3) Bridge south coil in series with neck north coil
4) (Neck south parallel with bridge south) in series with neck north
5) Full neck
