Wiring Setup On An Ibanez Sa160

I own an Ibanez SA160QM and currently have a Screamin' Demon in the bridge, a JB junior in the middle and a lil' 59er in the neck position. Didn't like the harshness of the JB/59er so I purchased two STK-4S' to replace them. I need to know the best wiring setup. I play metal/hard rock and sometimes jazz/blues. The guitar has a 5 way switch. Also... I was told, to get a better setup, I would need to install a super 5 way, is that correct ? I'm leaving the wiring to the pro's so don't be shy with the suggestions. Thanks for all... :beerchug:

Re: Wiring Setup On An Ibanez Sa160

Hey Doom; Welcome to the forum.

With that setup, I think I'd just go with one of Duncans standard wiring diagrams. Click on the Seymour Duncan logo at the top of this page. (Right click>open in new window - if you don't want to leave this page.) Then click on Support>Wiring Diagrams. Then scroll down to Strat Pickups, then use the drop down menu to scroll down to the "1 Humbucker, 2 STK-S4" listings. There's six of them. One of those should fill the bill.

If not, let us know, and we can go from there. Any way you do it, that combo should sound killer. :)

Re: Wiring Setup On An Ibanez Sa160

Hey Artie, thanks for the reply. The diagrams helped to give me some ideas. I've had a couple of friends suggest that I install a push/pull volume knob to switch the neck and mid pickups from series to parallel. Being a novice to the electronics of guitars, what exactly does that mean, and what kind of sounds would I get from that? The same friends are also suggesting that I replace the exisiting 5-way switch to a Super 5-way, what benefits could I get from that? I'm not really too keen on the basic setups, I want to get some really cool sounds out of these new pickups, the stock pickup sounds were setup pretty much like the diagrams you suggested. I've been told that there's better setups out there, like making it sound like more of the classic Fender sound. Do you or anyone else have any more suggestions? Thanks for all.:beerchug:

Re: Wiring Setup On An Ibanez Sa160

Just a note -- I bought a Super Switch from Stew Mac for my sa120 (the HH version of your guitar), and found that it was a millimeter too tall for the electronics cavity. It was also chunky (wide), which could cause its own problems.

It's pretty tight in there due to the SA's thin profile, so measure first before you purchase any electronics for it.
