I have a duncan tapped tele pickup from the custom shop. I was sent a wiring schmatic for a tele.I have a esquire (no neck pickup). Does anyone have an esquire diagram or instructions how to wire a tapped esquire.

Although, if you use a push/pull pot to tap, it would be like this:

Even though that shows a Strat, the wiring to the pup is the same.

Thanks Artie. The tapped pickup has an extra lead. So the Esquire diagram does'nt quite work. I need to know where to gofrom the lead wire to the switch. Do I just design around the tele circuit and leave out the rythtm PU wiring??

Basically, your tapped pup will have one ground, and two "hots". There's several different ways to implement the tapped function either using a push/pull, a SPST switch, DPDT, or the standard 3-way.
Tell me what you'ld like to have, using which switches, and we'll go from there.

Edit: btw - The Esquire wiring has some functions that are remnants of the old days, and to which, I wouldn't find all that useful, like the extra cap that rolls off all the high end.

I just went ahead and did it like this:
(Click on the pic for the full-size version.)
This will give you this selection:
1. Full output (normal tone control - handle towards the bridge)
2. Tapped output (normal tone control)
3. Tapped output - .05uf cap
Then you have a simple option. If you leave off that blue jumper, the #1 position changes to "full output - no tone control".
Let me know if you have any questions.

thats almost exacty the way my esquire is wired. the only difference is that i think i used a .033 cap

Sure. I can mod the diagram if you need, but that mod is real simple. Let me just describe it:
1. Omit the bottom cap completely.
2. Move the blue line down one step. That is, it will connect from the tone control to lug right below.
3. Do the opposite with the red jumper, so that it connects with the top lug and second one down.
(I'll post the modded diagram when I get home.)

Thanks, Artie. I'm always tempted to convert one of my Teles to an Esquire for a change of pace, although I usually end up missing the neck pickup whenever I try it. Don't feel like you need to spend anymore time on this one, as your instructions seem straightforward.
Actually, now that I think about it, I'm just as likely to use a stock Tele lead pickup and a no-load tone control if I convert to an Esquire, so I'm not sure how I'd wire it. Oh well, gotta save something for the future.

You're pretty much right on the money. Here's the three-way switch tones:
Bridge-most Position: Full output of pickup. Fatter Fuller Sounding.
Middle Position: Inner coil only (1st tap). Brighter Sounding.
Neck-most Position: Inner coil only (1st tap) with tone capacitor to ground. (Warmer Sound).
