Wiring up problem

I had my Dean fitted with an A2P/Custom combo and sounds ace. My Kramer has these quadrails in them which are pretty muddy and not too great. I was thinking of replacing them with the Dean's original stock pups. I am a bit confused how they should be wired. The dean had coil splitting so obviously had 4-conductor wiring, but the pickup only has:

-A big metal wire (apparently the ground)
-a thin white wire
-a thin red wire

If anybody could tell me how to wire it up or generally make sense of where goes where that would be brilliant thanks! Never done this before.

Hey Mr Wolf. Basically, the big metal wire is the ground, (as you guessed), and the white and red are hot and "split". The trouble is, I don't know which is which. The thing to do would be to measure from ground to each one. The highest resistance will be the "hot" wire, and the other will be the tap/split wire.

Unfortunately, Dean doesn't seem to offer wiring diagrams on their site. At least, I couldn't find any.

Ok that makes some sense. I have no means here to measure the resistance. I am tempted to wire it up assuming the red is hot (seems most logical). Ill try emailing Dean, see if i can get any response from them.

Yeah, that would work. Just tap gently on each coil to see if its active. You have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

The good news is - if you choose the wrong wire, your pup will just be "split". You should be able to tell by the sound. Otherwise, do the "coil tapping" trick. If it is, just replace that wire with the other one, and leave the first one disconnected. You may want to tape it up so that it doesn't touch anything.
