yeah witch one and why ?

To me i tried tb5 tb14 and heard tb11 , and it is the C5 !
huge tight bass , and scooped mids that makes clarity in chords especially , even if for lead you don't get this thick cream ( not what you think about !)
it is so precise and biting .
tb5 is a bit similar but less bass and warmth , more agressive highs .

The plain old Custom is my choice. I got a CC, and tried all three magnets, and the ceramic just sounded the best to me.

The regualr old custom!!! It sounds like a souped up PAF!!! Cant ask for much else in a bridge bucker in my opinion.

I like the Custom Custom and Custom best. I used the Custom 5 for a while but felt it didn't sound quite as full in the mids as what I prefer. Great pickup but I like the thicker tone of the Custom and Custom Custom a little more. Lew

Well I don't quite know why we're limited to tremspaced models here but my pick, having used the 2, 3, 5 and ceramic magnets, would be the ceramic.

ceramic
3
2
5
4 (a harsh sounding pickup)

BTW: I hear the C3 as sounding between the Custom (ceramic) and Custom Custom (A2).

I tried an A4. More mids than the A5, but there was something very harsh and cold about it. I tried an A4 in a PGn (along with an A2 [stock], A3, and A5) and got similar results.

Come on C5ers !!!
When my next guitar arrive in a few days, i suppose i will have to try again the tb5 , i have one waiting , before i swap the magnet .

I just listened to Doc Barlo's clip comparing CC and C3 and to me the CC is thicker but more flabby , no punch .

Never tried a C5, but I have a custom and custom custom and I like the CC a bit better.

C-5. It's been one of my favorite bridge pickups ever since it came out. I've tried the magnet swap, creating every version of a Custom, but still like the tightness, clarity, and overall vintage sound of the C-5.

However, like many people, I've always wanted it to have just a touch more mids, so I asked Seymour how it can be done with a Custom 5. His simple answer was "just overwind it a bit." So, on my quest for the perfect Custom bridge at User Group Day, I made a 15.3 slightly overwound Custom 5 nickel covered. Now, it has the tight bass of the C-5, mids that are closer to CC, and a top end that is very slightly compressed like a good JB. I've found it! If you're anal about tone, and want the perfect Custom, order a Custom Shop overwound C-5.....approx. 15K - 15.4K If you go past that, it'll begin to get a tiny bit muddy and compressed, from what MJ told me.

But then did you loose a bit of clarity and punch (pick attack) ?

Which witch is which?

Anyway, have a C3 in my ES-355. Quite righteous. Had an Alnico 4 in it but it was just a shade too full that way, though it still sounded really good. If there was no such thing as Alnico 3 or if we're talking about a different guitar, I might prefer the C4.

That really sounds like it might be the ulitmate pickup . . . One question though: is it noticable hotter than a normal C-5?

No, it sounds like the same output as a C-5. A JB is over 16K, so I asked for a 15.5. When I measured it, it was 15.3. That's right at the point where it sounds best. Just a slightly overwound C-5 is the ticket. I have a feeling that if I went further and requested a 16K C-5 it would have lost some clarity and may have ended up with TOO much compression. If you want my opinion, the CC and Custom should be 13K pickups, while the C-5 should be around 15.3. Of course, the company decided to go with 14.4 across the board, but if a custom winder were to fine tune the pickups, they'd probably dial them in with a more perfect wind.

I have to say, my other main Les Paul has those new 50th Ann Seths, and those don't sound the same, but equally killer. I really love those Custom Shop Seths!
