WLH vs. Pearly Gates

Hello all! I'm looking for some new pickups and would love some input from everyone! I have a pair of whole lotta humbuckers in my 2013 LP standard and they feel.... flat to me. They are really thick which is nice (I played in a power trio for a while, so the extra oomph was nice) but to my ears they have a tendency to get muddy and aren't super touch responsive. So, I'm looking at the Pearly Gates. What I really want is something that has an articulate sound, is touch responsive (clean when I play soft but will growl a little when I dig in), and have a bit of sizzle. Am I on the right track with a pair of Pearly Gates? Would love to hear opinions. Thanks!

yep pretty much. Both sets are great and your description of the wlh is spot on. I reckon youll love the pgs. Totally different beast, and a lot less low end, but all the other stuff is so rich and gnarly.

The PGs are exactly as you describe. To my ears they are more articulate than the WLH, but depending on the gain used, they both seem touch-sensitive. The PGs expanded high end lets you hear a little more of the attack, though.

WLH's are a warm set, you wouldn't think they have A5's. They're not muddy though. For me, PGN's are pretty warm and rounded on top, and PGB's on the bright side and thinner than expected. There's a big contrast between neck & bridge, more so than with WLH's. To some players the EQ contrast is desirable, to others it isn't.

From my perspective, the choice of Duncan PAF types is between Seth, WLH, A2P, or '59's (with an UOA5 in the bridge and an A4 in the neck).
