Woah...Boss FZ-3 Fuzz = GOOD? WTF?

Man, I played an FZ-3 fuzz over the weekend, with a Les Paul Studio through some equally and creepily good sounding solid state unammed model number Ampeg (any ideas what it could be guys?) and I was VERY impressed.

I've plugged in (but never bought) quite a bit of Fuzz pedals in my short time on this earth and I had looked at the FZ-3 with, well, quite a bit of disdain simply because it was a Boss (I like other boxes of theirs, but had strange feelings about the FZ). Now, with this amp, this guitar, and this pedal, it all clicked. It was quite weird...and tasty...FAT AND JUICY FUZZ WITH THE NECK HUMBUCKER!

Any love for the FZ-3?

...how 'bout the FZ-5?

I haven't tried it, but I think a Big Muff is hard to beat when it comes to a fuzz box. I'd try one out- I prefer the Lil'Big Muff for its size, before you get the Boss Fuzz.

I've tried all three. The Muff's are awesome and in a class all by themselves, but the FZ-3 is just...suprising. It's odd, that's all. One wouldn't think Boss, of all companies, would make a Fuzz pedal such as this. It's pretty amazing...

I like the FZ-3 as another fuzz option. It's not a Fuzz Face, Tone Bender or Muff clone, so the vintage guys don't like it but like you said it does have a nice fuzzy tone. The FZ-2 is pretty crazy, it has an upper ocatve on the tone, and it's similar to some of the vintage Japanese fuzzes. The FZ-5 uses COSM modeling to emulate a Fuzz Face, Octavia and Maestro fuzz boxes, and although I have one I rarely use it. The real versions are so much more 'authentic' and real sounding. Where the 3 can get you unique tones, the 5 just sounds like it pretending (and is overly bright most of the time). The 2 and 3 definitely can stand on their own if they are your style.

i'd like to try one but it'll be hard to turn me away from BIG MUFFs man. I don't own one but every time i've used one i've wanted to steal it.

I have an FZ-2, which is a lot of fun as long as I am playing single-note lines.
