Wolfgang MIM, or Charvel Pro Mod MIM?

I love my EVH Striped Series, especially the neck, and am now looking for an HH guitar with a similar neck. It is my understanding that current EVH Wolfies and Charvel Pro Mods are made in that same Fender Ensenada Mexico plant, but whic one's neck is closest to the Striped?

No idea. I will say the neck on my Striped Series Star is noticeably different from my USA and Japanese ProMod necks. Haven't tried a MIM ProMod. The board on the Star feels flatter as well. Then again, that's based on his Dano neck, which could be different from his Elsworth/Charvel necks.

Probably the Charvel. The Striped Series necks are considerably thinner and a tad wider than the Wolfgang necks. It was actually a disappointment to me because I was eyeballing a B&Y Striped Series until I tried one and found that my hand cramped with the thin neck.

I know I should just go to GC and try them, but I hate going to GC. It would be more enjoyable to tune 5 different radios to a different station and turn them all on at the same time and turn them all up as loud as they can go :/

Re: Wolfgang MIM, or Charvel Pro Mod MIM?

I've played them all recently (So Cal and San Dimas). I'd go with the MIM Charvel. In fact, it's on my to get list.

Re: Wolfgang MIM, or Charvel Pro Mod MIM?

I haven't found a MIM Wolfgang Special in the stores to play yet, but briefly played the cheaper Asian import Wolfgang Standard, and the neck felt very familiar to my EVH Striped.

The EVH Striped has the most comfortable neck for shredding I've played, my fingers fly on it.

I have a USA Pro Mod, and it has more of a D shaped feel.

I prefer the tone of Alder over Basswood though, so I'd go with the Charvel.

Re: Wolfgang MIM, or Charvel Pro Mod MIM?

I really wanted a MIM So Cal but my money & sale prices never seemed to line up right. I can afford one now but it would basically be a left over @ this point & I'm a bit worried that anyone who's still got some has them for a reason! Like it's a defect or I'm going to end up with a return that's mislabeled & then having to pay for the return shipping. I figure a nice used one will come out of the woodwork sometime over the next year or and hopefully I'll be able to snatch it up. IMHO the Charvel is a better buy & as much as I love single humbucker guitars the neck Humbucker is a nice feature for extra versatility...

Make sure one is playing Nirvana, two are playing some one finger thing in drop P tuning, One is playing Metallica and the other is playing Stairway and the other is playing Smoke on the Water.. For a true music store experience...

Of course, I dont think anyone plays something classic like Stairway any more...

I played one of the Striped Series guitars when they first came out, and the neck on that particular guitar felt exactly like the necks on my Charvels.

My local FMIC dealership has had several MIM Charvel So Cal, San Dimas and EVH Striped Series models in stock for a good while. IMO, the main reason why these perfectly good guitars are not shifting is because the retail price is set too high by roughly one hundred Pounds (150USD).

thanks! Thats what I was hoping!! Your charvels are the new MIM ones?

Re: Wolfgang MIM, or Charvel Pro Mod MIM?

I played a few different guitars earlier this year, including ESP, Ibanez etc. (not that they had a chance), an EVH Wolfgang and a MIM Charvel So-Cal. I don't remember much, but wasn't there that thing that you can't bend up with EVH's? All I remember is that I was 100% convinced by the Charvel, which I bought, and absolutely love.

What Charvel you get? I love em! Would have a whole fleet of Charvels if I A)had the money and B)had a wife that didnt poop bricks whenever I brought a guitar home.. Heck, if it wasnt for B, Id spend every last dime on Charvels!!!! hee hee
