Wolfgang Special pickups

I'm looking at expermenting with my Wolfgang Special (again and again and again etc :stooges: ). I like lower output pups and am considering DiMarzio Virtual PAF or a pair of 59's or even Alnico II Pro. I don't like JBs, Customs on up. Also I notice that the DiMarzio pups fit the cavity in the Wolfgang, with Duncans you have to grind the tabs and I really don't want to grind anything if possible.

Give me your input guys.

Get the DiMarzio Virtual HOT PAF. That'd be killer in a wolfgang.

Or if you want duncans, Just grind their tabs down. Dont hurt the guitar.

+1 , when it comes to replacing pups in a Wolf I`d go for Dimarzio since they fit in without any mods. I had the Virtual PAFs in a Wolf that I had a while back and it sounded killer. I`m betting the Virtual Hots would sound even better

First of all, out of curiosity, is it a USA Special or an import Special EXP? Second, I'm thinking about replacing the pups in my Wolfie with a Custom-Custom/A2P. I have yet to find a DiMarzio I like as much as my various Duncans. The only DiMarzios I do like are the Breeds, which I don't think would fit wit hteh whole attitude of the Wolfie. They do sound great in the basswood Jems, though.

You could just switch the baseplates of the Wolfgang pickups and the Seymour Duncans if you don't want to grind them down.

I once had a Wolfgang special and I really liked those pickups. I never once thought of switching them out but then again I guess it depends on the rest of your gear. For me it worked out well with my Mesa DR. That is one guitar I wish I kept.

Travis, i was the same as you. I have 5 different SD humbuckers in my guitars and some custom made pups. just out of curiousity i scored a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage PAF. Since that i became a believer - great pup!
