nah, get some NOS phillips tubes

if you wanna hear what it sounds like, listen to 60 years by setzer

he also changed out the speakers but you'll get a good idea

also, let us know what attenuator works well with them, a cranked bassman is so beautiful, i'd hate to ruin the tone with a bad attenuator

If you are referring to Brian Setzer he doesn't use that amp. He uses a head with closed back 2x12 last I saw him. That will sound quite different.

Wow Biu, you never struck me as a big guy and I wouldn't even attempt to lug that thing around personally. Just don't go through the "louder is better" phase like I did (200w Sound City amp anyone? :smack: :laugh2:

It'll make up for my lost time at the gym ;)

Re: Won a Bassman!!!

there are a lot of things that can be done to those '70s amps. You can have the left channel modded to have more marshall characteristics, then get an a/b and switch between channels, or use a pan pedal to blend channels.

Brian Setzer uses '61 or '62 white or brown tolex Bassmans with stock Bassman cabs upgraded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. At least that's what he used to use.

Those amps include a stock prescence control similar to that on the '59 Bassman or Marshall Plexi.

Very differant sounding amps, IMO, than a stock blackface or silverface Bassman head.

I really do think that most silverface and blackface Bassman heads need extensive modding to get them to sound as good (or better!) as a 61 or 62 Bassman...

Re: Won a Bassman!!!

I have a Bassman Ten, as well. Great sounding tube bass amp. I don't care for the tone when I plug my 6-string into it. But maybe with some tweak-age, it'll do the job for you. Nice price, as well.

Re: Won a Bassman!!!

i have one of the same amps but mines had it and needs some work maybe mod it to crunch but when it was running fine it was just great with my les paul jr cranked anybody know who mods them and what speakers sound good while were on the subject of it
