Wonker’s Gibson Flying V Faded Ebony Project

Re: Wonker’s Gibson Flying V Faded Ebony Project

let me make a suggestion....if i may;

you have an lp with triple bucker cutouts. So...essentially there is no combination of pups that is off limits. Why don't you go the extra mile...

Wire the whole thing with quick conects and then go to work over time making multiple pickguard/pup setups?

Just unscrew the guard, loosen the strings, and swap the whole thing out?

Have a mirror guard with a single dd
have a white 3 ply guard with a custom/ddneck/pg
have a cream guard with 3 p-90's
have steel plate one with a pair of live wires
have one with a couple of p-rails

the controls can change with the guard....

yes!yes! yes!+++

Wax potted & soldered the cover on the SH-6b today. Hope it works when I wire it up.

I just can not abide by the loss of a perfectly flexible triple routed V. Get another hack body if we are just playing punk with the bridge.

Best part is he can use the body later on. It is coming along nice. I bet you will love the sperzels I do on the guitars I have them on. String changes just got real simple and timely on that one. With the locking no need for wraps. String, tighten, clip, tune, done.

Ive always loved the black with mirror look too! My first experience was Paul Stanleys. but then Jim Martin and Lenny too.. If my v was black, Id do the same. I had a Sykes Edwards LP and it looked cool with my Black/mirror explorer, so the V would have been a trifecta of cool.. but I had to sell the edwards..
looking forward to seeing this coming together!!

Good man.

Carry on.

That's gonna be a sweet V. I was thinking of dumping the tone knob on mine, but the thought of how clean it would look with just one pickup, volume knob and jack...........oh yeah

Re: Wonker’s Gibson Flying V Faded Ebony Project

I would Schenkerize it.

***Update***

I’m under budget on this project so I’m thinking about replacing the stock Gibson nut (Which looks like crap BTW) with a BLACK TUSQ XL nut and the saddles on my TonePros Bridge with Graph Tech String Saver Tune-o-matic Saddles.

But I’m not to sure about this yet…I have to read a few more threads first.

Do it. Touch it. Love it.

Re: Wonker’s Gibson Flying V Faded Ebony Project

Re: Wonker’s Gibson Flying V Faded Ebony Project

a bone nut would be much classier looking imo, but anything other than the stock plastic nut would be a definite upgrade- the strings eventually leave grooves in the plastic and you get tuning problems from the strings catching.

Guitar is about 90% done. I'm waiting on my nut and saddles from Graph Tech. I haven't played it that much yet, but I like the covered SH-6b so far. I'm going to use it at a show tomorrow night and the post up what I think.
