Won't Give Up On You (FINISHED raw track)

For those of you that liked my rough demo, I re-worked it with new compressor settings. I re-recorded the acoustics, fine tuned the vocals and lead parts. I'm really proud of this one. I've listened to it more times than I'd care to admit to make sure I feel good about it prior to wasting anybody's time.

Here it is, now to record an entire EP of stuff like this:

A special thanks to Twilight Odyssey for giving me the kick in the pants to get this thing done right. Thanks for the rest of the guys for giving me the confidence to keep at the vocals. This is the closest product I've got to what I want a solo album to be.

Oooh, really looking forward to having a beer later and giving this a listen! :)

Okay, beer and hand and a couple of plays on this track (21st Amendment Back In Black :) ).
MUCH improved over the first go-round! Instrumentation is solid and vox are clear and at the appropriate level. The compression is spot on this time and everything sounds really natural and smooth. Performance-wise, nothing to nitpick -- everything is excellent.

Funny, I just read a track on using natural reverb on recordings, and as much as I love this, flawless production btw, I would just love to hear the acoustic guitar sound like it's playing in a bigger room. Just the rhythm I suppose, the leads sound nice and clear and crisp.

Ironically, the leads have a bit of reverb to them and the rhythm doesn't (I felt the leads were going to stick out too much without them, but I know that's probably opposite to what most people do). I put up a fair amount of acoustic treatment in my space and that definitely lends itself to the "dead" sound from the room (good for vocals, maybe a bit lacking for instruments). I may have to play around with IRs or in a few months, have my friend put his touches on the track to do it the right way when I have enough together for a strong EP (I've spent absolutely no time on panning, EQing or the like... just a quick mastering plugin to up the overall volume to modern standards and a bit of reverb for the leads).

Reminds me of James Taylor.

Thanks! That's a heck of a compliment! I wish I had an 1/8th of the talent that man has. I do like to think I draw on some folk and pop elements to my acoustic playing so again, thank you : )
