Can look great, or can look like crap, just like any other inlays. But it opens up a whole realm of interesting possibilities, like blue Zebrawood crosses, burl maple blocks, dyed flame maple flames on ebony, ebony blocks on maple, yaddayaddayadda...

I think my next build will either have no inlays, burl maple, or blue birdseye.

So yeah, I can`s stand wood inlays at all :D

Although their work is mostly in pearl look up the work of Linda Manzer, Wendy Larivee and Grit Laskin

I would of never thought of putting wood inlays into a neck. Im sure some might say it affects tone but I like it.

The one in the auction is a cool example of a good, understated use of wood. I like it.

I'm not really a fan of elaborate inlays, regardless of what they're made of.

I used to love inlay, but now I'm too cheap and too bored to do it. so I skip inlay all together and prefer to play blank boards. my fingers will find the way no matter what's there. I do like those decals because you can swap whatever you have with ease.

The decals are a pile of **** imo. Its like putting fake hub cap mags on a Ferrari.

Put an OFR on that Jackson and it would be the first one ever I'd want to spend money on.

That said, tasteful inlays don't care what they are made from.

I think it works well if done right. I haven't seen too many in person, but the ones I have seen have been either really good or really bad. I've seen that Michael Schenker Checkmate ebony maple inlay thing, and it works well for the guitar. I think that it's especially good with Maple when you can use it to bring different tones and can be easily seen. I don't think Rosewood or Ebony are particularly good with colored wood inlays unless the difference between colors is huge.

As far as I know, Jackson's "ebony sharkfins on maple fretboard" option does still use real ebony for the USA stuff (imports have always been phenolic resin, or ebanol, or simply plastic).

And while those fretboard stickers are inexpensive, especially compared to the cost of intricate inlays, they do look nice once applied.

I like that Jackson! Did ya notice the ebony buttons on the tuners? Nice touch, really helps bring it all together The other maker had some pretty nice stuff too. If don properly and used in the right manner, using wood for the markers looks very nice.
