would a p rail bridge pickup and a jazz neck pickup be too much of a mismatch?

I have a Yamaha sg45 electric guitar with 2 humbuckers and a 3 way switch. The guitar is mahogany solid body and I was going to install the jazz neck pickup and a p rail bridge, both with the triple shot mounting rings. Just curious if anyone has used just one p rail with another kind of pickup.

Thanks

That sounds like a usable combo. Ive seeen a 59 being used with a p-rail in the bridge so it would probably work well.

I think it will work well depending on your end desired result. Some people desire their pickups to have similar outputs and sounds. Others like diversity in their guitars, Swiss Army setups. The P-Rails as a humbucker has a lot of output and punch. If you are looking for something to compliment it and give you cleaner tones I think you are on the right track. I have a Jazz with my Dimebucker and not only do they give me tone diversity but they also sound fantastic together. With my P-Rails I have a Pearly Gates and this is yet another fantastic combination. I think you will be happy with the results of the P-Rails/Jazz combo. Don't let the Jazz name fool you it is a solid rock pickup.

I have used Triple Shots with a few different types of pickups. It works on anything you throw at it. No everything has such vastly different tonal changes as the P-Rail, but it is worth trying. There might be one or 2 positions that sound similar (like selecting either coil), but overall it is really cool.

Thank yall for the feedback. the Prail arrived yesterday, (the jazz neck was installed awhile ago). My only choice now is how the two triple shots should be wired and which volume and tone pots to use. I have read 500k. I'm curious about split coiling the neck and bridge at the same time and will this setup still "buck the hum" Any insights would be greatly appreciated

I'd start with 500k, and move from there if you notice an issue with the sound. As far as getting humcancelling, there will be positions that aren't. No matter how you wire it, when you can choose one coil or the other, something is going to provide a little bit of hum. This is a trade off for all of the versatility, I guess.

Hi SDJ,
I have a similar project too, Jazz Humbucker (Neck) + P-Rails Hot (Bridge) on an Ibanez ICX220DX with two (2) Triple Shot switching mounting rings and two (2) 500k Push/Pull Potentiometers.

Wish me luck.

Thanks

I think that would be a great combination. Go for it.

Definitely use 500k pots for both pups.

yep. i betcha its a fine set but 500k for sure

I have both (not paired though) and I agree as well that the combination seems like it would be a great one. [emoji1303]
