I started out as a guitar player, but when I went to form my first band my buddy knew a solo and I didn't so I switched to bass to complete the band. I stuck with bass for years because I realized that even a half assed bassist like myself could find a lot more work than people with twice the chops on guitar.
A few years ago I started to play again and decided to go back to guitar, which I had always wanted to do. And over the past couple years I have been putting out stuff as a guitar player, only using the bass to fill it out.
Jamming with someone for the first time in years recently showed me that when it comes to guitar I just don't 'get' the approach like I do on the bass.
So I decided to switch back to bass, and start writing on that instead.
I am planning on doing another release, (quite possibly my last) but this time I'm going to let someone else do all the guitar work.
I'm still gonna write what I want, but I'm just going to do a framework for the guitar and let the other guy have free run with it.
Anyway, now that the background novel is out of the way: the clip below is something I wrote on the bass with drum loop patterns and only did a rough framework of guitar over it.
Not a finished piece, in fact quite rough.
There are some flubs and rough patches, but this is the start of what I'm writing and how I plan to approach writing material.
