Would you buy this pickup?

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

Now that I have a brand new full-length lead on this pickup, I have a brand new dilemma as well. I was going to put the Chopper in the neck and this Fast Track 1 in the middle, but I could just as easily switch that around now. However, I have a feeling that with the array of pickups I'm going to use, the Chopper should still take the neck spot since the Fast Track 1 is the lowest output of the 3.

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

Oh, yes... The Chopper has arrived. And no, I didn't pay full price for it either. Now my set is complete. Reverb.com rules!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1450994211.632584.jpg

Question: Is this unique to the Chopper only, or all of these DiMarzio blade/rail types?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1451002234.718097.jpg

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

Your bridge and neck position Dimarzio pickups should both be wired red = hot, green = ground.

Unless you want coil split but still hum-cancelling pairings in selector switch positions 2 and 4, the Fast Track 1 should also be red = hot and green = ground.

If you do require coil splitting but still hum-cancelling, this DiMarzio schematic gives some clue as to how the conductors of the middle position pickup need to be connected.

This SD schematic is the same concept but, of course, with the wrong colour codes. You get the general idea.

Ok, because mine is going to be:

Chopper- neck
Fast Track 1- mid
Fast Track 2- bridge

I do plan on adding a DPDT on-on switch to add the neck pickup in at any position, and maybe another to split the neck and bridge coils.

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

Looks like this is what I will most likely end up going with. 1 mini toggle for "neck on" and 1 to split the neck & bridge. I have everything I need except 1 of the DPDT on-on toggles. However I may end up getting a 4PDT for that one instead, so I can do series/split/parallel on the neck and bridge. Wondering if I should do that or just keep it simple with the neck/bridge split instead.

That's going to be killer, dude, esp nk solo,br solo & nk & br combined!

I personally don't use a mid p/up or any skinny switches, but that set-up is gonna kick ass!!!

Yep! I almost wonder if I should even bother with coil-splitting or just put in a neck-on switch.

If that be the case, then all I'm waiting on is some more mounting screws and springs (all of mine are for countersunk pickguard holes) which should arrive today or tomorrow.

In that case I'll have Chopper neck, Fast Track 1 middle, Fast Track 2 bridge, YJM 500k high speed volume pot, CTS 250k tone pots, and a neck-on switch.

I'm pretty psyched. This will be the first guitar I've ever redone all of the pickups on at once. Plus the 10"-16" radius Warmoth neck with SS jumbo frets & rosewood fretboard has already been a huge improvement. This thing's gonna rock.

Alright, I did it. Got the Chopper in the neck, Fast Track 1 middle, Fast Track 2 bridge, YJM 500k High Speed volume pot, kept the CTS 250k tone pots, coil-split switch for neck & bridge, and a "neck on" switch to give me the "7 sound Strat" switching. Of course with the coil-splitting, I actually have... 12? 13? Haven't really added up the combinations yet. Haha. Also I have Tone 1 controlling neck/middle while Tone 2 is bridge only.

Sounds awesome in all settings though! Still getting pickup height dialed in to the sweet spot, but it's looking like a winner.

I'm still amazed that it all worked the first time I wired it up, without having to go back and troubleshoot anything. I must be getting better at soldering! Now I just have to become a good enough player to justify the coolness of this guitar. Hahaha

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

It'll be fine. You can repair it easily if you feel the need, or you can send it in to Duncan and have them put new leads on it for you.

Re: Would you buy this pickup?

Sorry I failed to read the whole thread before posting. Glad it worked out.
