Darkness on the edge of Tone
I'm thinking about doing a series of posts that feature my favourite warm up exercises, scales, and chordal studies, that I learned and teach my students. They will have TAB and audio clips, or will be Guitar Pro files. I'm trying to guage if anyone would be interested in such a thing before I sink any time into it, tho. So, here's your chance to let me know if you like to see something like that.

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

YES!

I think warmups are very important personally since I want my hand working 50 years from now :laugh2:

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't post any exercises that I use, I'll post them to add to it and I think it'd be cool if other people did that too... If I was to do any, they would be powertab files though since I don't have guitar pro

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

Here's my warm-up routine:

7:30 Put son #1 in bathtub
8:00 Put son #1 in bed
8:15 Endure some story about wife's coworkers
8:30 Go to the Jamatorium, turn on amp, select axe for the day
8:35 Get a coke, hot chocolate, coffee, or even an adult beverage if it's a weekend.
8:40 Take son #1 to the bathroom (he's up for the 1st time)
8:45 Get interrrupted by wife because son #2 did something cute, and it can't wait.
8:50 Take care of son #2 so wife can go #2.
8:55 Take son #1 to the bathroom again.
9:00 Turn on the TV, turn to American Chopper, which is like background for practicing.
9:05 Interruption from wife with a reminder of something incredibly important I must do sometime next month.
9:10 Open music book
9:15 Warm-ups consisting of alternate picking and fingering patterns for warming up the hands. Usually lasts about 5-mins
9:20 Take son #1 to the bathroom again.
9:25 Work in Berklee #1 for awhile
9:40 Work on hammer-ons and pull-offs
9:50 Work on speed picking from the Petrucci book
9:55 Take son #1 to the bathroom
10:00 Wake the wife off the couch and go to bed.
10:30 Everyone's asleep and I realize I didn't get jack done all day.

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

All joking aside, I have a pretty good warm-up routine where I do alternate picking, while changing strings and doing fingering patterns like:

1-3-2-4
4-3-2-1
1-2-3-4
4-3-2-1
1-2-4
1-3-4

Play slow, and be accurate.

However, I'd be interested in your chordal warm-up routine.

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

I want them also!!!

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

Post away TWO:)
And it was me who took the only taking away the drinking time option...hic hic:D
It would be most cool really, will be looking forward to it.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: LMFAO. I think many of us have been there.

On weekends, if my daughters were busy playing in the den, I could grab a few moments and plug in & play...invariably on of them would come upstairs and ask me to turn it down...Oh well

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

American Chopper RULES! love that show

oh.. yea. plz 2 b posting some techniques plz, kThx :D

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

I know I would benefit from it. I don't think you can have too many warmup routines in your arsenal.

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

And tree bark... apparently :p

If you wrote lessons Ben, you'd be the first I'd go to. That being said... at the expense of any chance of you making your busy schedule any looser... go forth and create! :laugh2:

Re: Would you guys appreciate some warm up tips?

Without any doubt yes!!! I'll try to find a moment in my agenda, which looks pretty much like JammerMatt's :)

Although since I work in my home office, coffee breaks and lunches are actually guitar times, so I'm lucky!

Post them TO!
