Re: Would you sell the first guitar you ever had?
First rock song was Herman's Hermits' "Something Good". Still sing it.
I started playing in 1965, at 14. First guitars were a Stella tenor guitar, then a Lyle classic. Next was a Harmony Sovereign, which was better than some of the Gibsons my friends had. Next I acquired a 1960 Fender Duo-Sonic.
The Stella was very hard to play with high action, the Lyle was damaged in a car accident. My mom gave them to another family. So no real regrets there.
I next acquired a 6-month old 1968 Telecaster Thinline with a factory Bigsby. Great guitar. However that one and the Sovereign were stolen in 1972. I did recover the Tele, but the thief boogered it up and I traded it off on a Gibson ES-150DCN (which turned out to be a terrible guitar.)
I sold the Duo-Sonic to a very petite young woman who was just learning. She was ecstatic to finally find a guitar that actually fit her.
Of all the guitars I've owned and sold, that Tele Thinline, and a used Gibson long-neck ES-330 I bought in 1973 are the ones I miss the most, along with my 1960 Strat and my first Martin D-18.
